Paying Youth Equitably, Competitively and Timely: Best Practices

Labor should always be compensated. This is a truth that holds especially true when working with young people —who are systematically exploited for their labor, creativity, and lived experiences. When working with young people it’s important to center mutual dialogue on the accessibility of various payment platforms, affirm youth for their skills, and uplift their right to self-determination by co-creating their own working titles instead of defaulting to the standard “youth consultant”. In this session, attendees will learn how to approach meaningfully compensating youth for their ideation and consultation, best practices, including payment turnaround, determining payment rates, exploring different payment cycles, and more.

Speakers:

  • Kellie Bryson, Chairman, Atlanta Youth Action Board

  • Andrew Gutierrez III, Director, Youth Leadership & Advocacy, Point Source Youth

  • La'Toya Cooper , Youth Intermediary - Lens Co, Community Engagement Associate
