In Solidarity, We Will Fight
Point Source Youth stands in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives and those working to dismantle white supremacy at every level of our society. We recognize that the systems in this country were built to oppress Black communities and, as such, must be dismantled in their entirety and replaced with systems of liberation.
This is a struggle that touches and impacts us all.
We stand with George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. We stand with the 12 members of the trans community killed by violence this year: Dustin Parker, Neulisa Luciano Ruiz, Yampi Méndez Arocho, Monika Diamond, Lexi, Johanna Metzger, Serena Angelique Velázquez Ramos, Layla Pelaez Sánchez, Penélope Díaz Ramírez, Nina Pop, Helle Jae O’Regan, and Tony McDade. We stand with the countless other lives lost whose names we do not know and whose names the media have deemed unimportant.
We can not end youth homelessness without dismantling institutional racism. We cannot end youth homelessness without working across movements. We cannot end youth homelessness if our advocacy isn't centered on ending the murders of Black youth, youth of color, and trans youth. We cannot end youth homelessness without dismantling the criminal injustice system which disappears these young people from their communities into jails and prisons across the country.
Our friend, Andrea Jenkins, VP of the Minneapolis City Council, said, “We need to declare an emergency on the other virus that is killing Black America, and that is racism.”
Our next two webinars planned weeks ago, are more important now than ever. Video summaries, resources, and full recordings will be made available as always to make these spaces as accessible as possible. Please prioritize your wellbeing and practice self-care and join us at a time that is right for you.
In Solidarity,
Larry Cohen, Executive Director & Co-Founder, Point Source Youth
