Danah Montgomery

Director, Direct Cash Transfers

Danah (they/she) is a Taurus and second-generation social worker, which means they are at their best when diving into a creative community project or taking a long nap. Danah’s earliest childhood memories begin in Jackson County, Michigan (known for Jackson State Prison). This proximity to the carceral system and deep lived experience in community has impacted Danah’s worldview and passion for community care and guided her even after her family relocated to Grand Rapids, MI, where she currently organizes grassroots initiatives towards imagining a world without police.

Danah is grateful that the lessons and legacies of Black women and gender-expansive folks have guided their work across multiple sectors, where they have provided program oversight in philanthropy, food justice, community health, and education. Prior to Point Source Youth, Danah organized mutual aid networks that supported Black and Brown LGBTQ youth, developed and implemented a liberatory community-led giving framework at a 100-year-old community foundation, and founded Camp A.R.Y.V (Always Raise Youth Voices), a social justice camp grounded in youth leadership. Danah envisions a liberated world where youth are not only housed, but can access uninhibited joy, and is excited to co-create that world with youth leading the way in their role at Point Source Youth.
